"THE REALITY OF GOD"
A Word Study
By George Clouse
God impressed on me during my "quiet time with Him" while
resting upon my bed, to do a Word Study using English words so that
we might understand "The Reality of God". Many times we
read things in the Bible, as well as hear Bible Expository Teachings
that we embrace, yet do not fully understand. I hope this will be
a blessing to you and you can understand God's word more readily
in the future.
The first word I want to interpret is about God Himself.
We are told He is Omnipotent; which means He is unlimited in power
or authority; all-powerful; almighty.
The word omnipotent comes from the Latin word omnis, a prefix meaning
all. We use omni which means all, as the beginning of the word and
then we add to it. We add potent which also originates from the
Latin word, potens, which is the present participle, to be able,
have power; having or wielding authority, mighty. Now when we say
omnipotent we can interpret the exact meaning of it. Omnipotent
means He is God, all powerful, and there is no limitation in Him.
The next word is omnipresent. Again the first part, omni means all.
Then we add present which comes from praesentia in French and Latin
meaning the immediate vicinity of a personal nearness; the person
or the personality of the individual; act, fact, or condition of
being present; opposed to absence. Again, when we hear this word
we will understand that it means God is always with us, no matter
what. The Bible says in Hebrews 13:8, "He is the same yesterday,
today and forever." Plainly stated, God is everywhere all the
time for always.
The next word on our list is omniscient which again
comes from omni meaning all.
Added to that is sciens which is Latin. Then scentis is the present
participle of scire or to know. In other words it means to have
infinite knowledge; knowing all things. Definitely God knows all
things for He is the originator of them all. In Genesis 1:1 the
Bible says: "In the beginning God created the heavens and the
earth."
Now I'd like to add one more word to our listing
today. That is the word "seed" We are told in Genesis
1:12: "And the earth brought forth grass, and herb yielding
seed after his kind, and the tree yielding fruit, whose seed was
in itself, after his kind, and God saw that it was good."
Seed is a potential of what is to come. If you hold
a peach in your hand, inside of it is a seed. Inside of the seed
is the potential to grow a peach tree which has peaches on it. Then
that potential will again grow more trees and more peaches. What
a great thing potential is. In like manner God tells us in Jeremiah
1:5; "Before I formed thee in the belly, I knew thee and before
thou camest forth out of the womb I sanctified thee, and I ordained
thee a prophet unto the nations." This says that God, who knows
everything, and is all powerful, with all authority, sets our potential,
or seed, in us before we are ever born. That seed or potential is
there if we obey His leading and move in the pathways He directs
us. It is our choice, but He has the power and authority and presence
to bring it to pass. How about that? He did not make us a robot
but gave us complete choice in all matters. He wants us all to go
to Heaven but He gives us the choice and if we follow His leading
then we end up in Heaven and if we refuse Him then we face the consequences.
Realizing all these things I think Potential is a great thing. At
this point I feel like coining a new word: "OMNIPOTENTIAL".
God makes it possible and we decide to do it and then He brings
it to pass.
We are told in Job 22:27 and 28: "You will make
your prayer to Him, He will hear you, And you will pay your vows.
You will also declare a thing and it will be established for you."
You notice it says that YOU pray and pay your vows and declare a
thing and HE will then establish it. I don't know about you but
that really thrills me!
I hope you have enjoyed this Word Study and receive
many blessings, as well as health and prosperity from contemplating
on it.
